Biologist/Resource Technician - (1) Full-time Position - Northwest Region (Peace River)

The Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Fisheries Program. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of existing ACA conservation sites, developing and delivering on-the-ground riparian conservation projects, including the development, design, and monitoring of restoration projects. Other duties include negotiating with landowners, developing habitat agreements, installing signage, field inspections, riparian assessments, partnership development, land acquisition, property maintenance, and budget tracking. This position will report to the Regional Manager in addition to designated program managers.

This position will require:

  1. Occasional work on weekends, holidays or hours other then 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  2. Some extended travel
  3. Work in adverse weather conditions

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or technical diploma majoring in Biological, Environmental, or Natural sciences, plus a minimum of 3-5 years related experience.
  • Good knowledge of the ecology and management of land-aquatic interface ecosystems
  • Computer and software skills, Microsoft Office data entry and GIS applications (ARCGIS)
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Applicant must be able to work within a team environment and independently with minimal supervision
  • Applicant must demonstrate strong public relation and communication skills (both oral and written).

Conditions:

  • Valid Class V Drivers License (must provide abstract)
  • Defensive Driving Course (must provide certificate)
  • TDG and WHMIS (must provide certificates)
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR (must provide certificate)

Assets:

  • Basic knowledge of proper use and maintenance of a variety of hand tools and powered field equipment
  • Experience operating four-wheel drive vehicles, ATV’s and towing trailers
  • Familiar with land appraisal and land acquisition process
  • Familiar with Conservation Easement process
  • Creative and positive attitude
  • Map and air photo interpretation
  • ATV training
  • Good physical health, strong work ethic
