Brian Bildson

My passion for the outdoors was ingrained in me at a young age. I come from a long line of outdoorsmen, and hunting and fishing were a normal part of our lives. Growing up in the NWT only reinforced my passion for the bush, and my childhood was spent fishing and hunting rabbits with my trusty .22 rifle. My first introduction to the formal concept of conservation took place at the age of fifteen. I applied for and was accepted as a member of the conservation corp., based out of Wood Buffalo National Park. This was a dream come true as myself and 15 other young teens lived the summer in tipis , and assisted Park Wardens on their activities. We monitored Whooping Crane nest sites, cut hiking trails, helped research the northern-most colony of brown pelicans, canoed the rivers and lakes, went on buffalo creeps and learned about the principals and benefits of conservation. The lessons I learned in those days have stood by me these last 30 years.

Today I have the privilege of sitting as the Board representative for the Alberta Trappers Association. This has allowed me to be part of a conservation team that is today’s Alberta Conservation Association. I have watched this organization and the people who work here put conservation first in everything they do. And as a bonus, most of these folks hunt and fish so we always have something to talk about! I’m pleased to be able to sit as Chairman of the Board, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished to date.  I look forward to many more years of on-the-ground conservation work.
