Hunter, Trapper and Angler
Retention, Recruitment and Education Grants
Background
The Hunter, Trapper and Angler Retention, Recruitment and Conservation Education Program was launched in 2008. The program was established to increase the level of attendance and awareness of outdoor opportunities, while developing knowledge and respect for conservation. Projects delivered by ACA Member Groups are given priority; however, organizations with similar goals are strongly encouraged to apply.
Purpose

- MENTORSHIP – attracting new mentors, training mentors and providing mentors for new hunters/anglers/trappers
- EDUCATION – sharing information in schools and with the general public about the link between conservation and hunters/anglers/trappers; this category also includes educating new hunters/anglers/trappers
- AWARENESS – generate awareness of the hunting/angling/trapping opportunities available to the public

Selection Criteria
The selection committee, composed of representatives from ACA Member Groups, reviews each application and determines funding allocations. You will be made aware of the committee’s decision by April 5, 2012.
We require all successful applicants to sign a Co-operative Project Agreement outlining project reporting and deliverable requirements.
The selection committee considers the following questions when assessing an application:
- How much money does the project need? Most approved projects are between $1,000 and $10,000 in value, but larger amounts have also been approved.
- Does the project have matching funds?
- Does the project benefit the conservation community as a whole?
- How much volunteer time will the project use?
- How many people will directly participate in the project?
- Has the group applied before and how successful was their previous project?
