ScCS 2009 Conference - General Information

September 1-3, 2009
Easter Seals Camp Horizon
Elbow River, Kananaskis Country, Alberta

Hosted by Alberta Conservation Association
Sponsored by the Alberta Sustainable Resource Development

The venue for the 2009 meeting is Easter Seals Camp Horizon. Located west of Calgary, near the hamlet of Bragg Creek, the camp overlooks the incredibly scenic Elbow River valley in the heart of bull trout country.

Registration includes meals and refreshments and a souvenir, but not lodging. Lodging options for Tuesday and Wednesday evening are:

  • Camp accommodation: dormitory-style lodging with washroom and shower facilities.
  • Tenting: space is available on the Camp Horizon grounds for pitching your tent and includes the use of washroom and shower facilities.
  • For motorhomes and RVs: space at the camp is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis and includes power hookup only.
  • There are a number of campgrounds nearby; see Kananaskis campgrounds and Alberta Parks.

Those planning to combine the meeting with some sightseeing should take a look at the Travel Alberta website, and the Alberta Conservation Association’s Guide to Outdoor Adventure for ideas. Planning on angling after the meeting? A summary of Alberta’s sport fishing regulations can be downloaded; angling licenses are available at most convenience stores or online. For those wanting more information on Calgary’s mountain playground Kananaskis Country, go to the Alberta Tourism and Parks website.

What to Bring to Camp Horizon:

  • Sleeping bag or sheets and blankets for twin-size bed plus pillow;
  • Personal toiletry items (towels, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.); and
  • Indoor slippers or shoes (groups must remove wet and muddy footwear before entering lodges).

Please note:

  • For your pets’ safety and due to Kananaskis Country restrictions, no pets are allowed on site.
  • No food or drink is allowed in sleeping dorms.

All attendees staying at Camp Horizon will be asked to sign a waiver, as will field day participants.

For costs see registration.
