Dr. Wiktor (Vic) Adamowicz – vic.adamowicz@ualberta.ca
Vic Adamowicz is a Canada Research Chair (Environmental Economics), professor in the Department of Rural Economy, University of Alberta and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Economics, University of Alberta. He obtained his BSc (Agriculture) and MSc (Agricultural Economics) from the University of Alberta and his PhD (Agricultural and Applied Economics) from the University of Minnesota.
Adamowicz’s research interests are in developing methods that integrate environmental goods and services into economic analysis and designing policies and institutions that help capture the importance of environmental services in economic decision-making. His main research areas include environmental valuation, economic assessment of environmental changes, and consumer choice modeling. His research interests also include the incorporation of economic perspectives into sustainable forest management and the development and implementation of economic instruments for environmental protection.

Dr. Stan Boutin – stan.boutin@ualberta.ca
Stan Boutin holds and NSERC-Alberta Chamber of Resources Chair in Integrated Landscape Management at the University of Alberta. Boutin has been studying the boreal forest ecosystem for 30 years. Most recently, he and collaborators have focused on the cumulative effects of forestry and energy sector activities on terrestrial ecosystems in northeastern Alberta. Boutin has been heavily involved in woodland caribou conservation in Alberta and in the development of the Alberta Biodiversity
Monitoring Program.

Mark Boyce is a Professor of Biological Sciences and the ACA Chair in Fisheries and Wildlife at the University of Alberta.
He supervises research programs on issues related to wildlife management in the province.
Dr. Eric Butterworth
Eric Butterworth is Senior Biologist/Manager of Territorial and Boreal Operations in the Western Boreal Forest Program of Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC). Eric joined DUC in 2001. Eric has worked as an ecologist in the forested environment since 1984. Eric is involved in the direction and development of research projects and partnerships. He also sits on several national and regional committees including the Sustainable Forest Management Network Partners Committee and the Peace Athabasca Delta Technical Working Group and the North American Waterfowl Management Plan Technical Committee for Alberta. Eric has a Ph.D. in Zoology and Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Alberta. He completed his BSc and MSc at the University of Guelph.
Ms. Cindy Chiasson – cchiasson@elc.ab.ca
Cindy Chiasson obtained her Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of Alberta in 1985 and was admitted to the Alberta bar in 1987. She spent her early career in private practice with an Edmonton firm, and since 1990, has concentrated her practice on environmental law and policy.
Cindy spent eight years consulting to Alberta Environment. She worked on the development of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, and related regulations and codes of practice. Cindy has been involved in legislative drafting, policy development and review, research, and public consultation and stakeholder review. She also spent four years consulting on environmental legal matters, including research, regulatory compliance, environmental training and environmental management systems, for private and non-profit sector clients.
Cindy joined the Environmental Law Centre as Staff Counsel in 1997 and became Executive Director in 2002. She has written and presented extensively on environmental issues, with particular emphasis on regulatory matters and contaminated sites. Cindy currently serves on the Alberta Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture Council, the Natural Resources Conservation Board Policy Advisory Group and Alberta Ecotrust’s Grant Review Committee, and has served on the boards of the Clean Air Strategic Alliance and Clean Air Canada.

Mr. Clarke has been with Suncor Energy Inc. for 23 years. He is currently Director for the Central Asset Team for Natural Gas and Renewable Energy and has held a variety of positions, primarily in field operations, throughout the province including Edmonton, Bonnyville, Calgary, Red Deer and Edson.
He is an avid outdoorsman whose hobbies include fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling and horseback riding. Given his strong connection to the outdoors, he is pleased to be involved in the Boreal Habitat Conservation Initiative with the Suncor Energy Foundation and the Alberta Conservation Association.

Elston Dzus is currently a forest ecologist with Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. He has a long-term interest in the interaction of human activities and ecology of various wildlife species and is an advocate for advancing forest management innovations through effective partnerships. His current responsibilities include: biodiversity monitoring, and assisting in the implementation of the natural disturbance model. He currently represents Al-Pac on the:

Alan has a long business background in small to large companies. Before joining SALTS he was Consulting Director for Computer Associates (CA), running their pre-sales, post-sales and web design organizations for Western Canada. Prior to that he spent 12 years as a practicing Architect in Calgary and Edmonton. His paternal family has lived in the Pekisko country of southwest Alberta for over 100 years.

Dr. Gates has worked in applied wildlife ecology since 1980. He has facilitated numerous collaborative research and management initiatives in northern and western Canada and the United States. He chairs the IUCN Bison Specialist Group for North America. His research focuses on applied wildlife ecology, integrated land use planning, and designing solutions for complex resource and land management issues. Dr. Gates sees the integration of natural and social sciences as essential for understanding complex ecological phenomena involving humans, and for developing effective policies and programs to sustain ecosystem goods and services that support biodiversity and the quality of human life.
Mr. Preston Manning
Mr. Manning served as a Member of the Canadian Parliament from 1993 to 2001. He founded two new political parties – the Reform Party of Canada and the Canadian Reform Conservative Alliance – both of which became the official Opposition in the Canadian Parliament. Mr. Manning served as Leader of the Opposition from 1997 to 2000 and was also his party’s critic for Science and Technology.
Since retirement from Parliament in 2002, Mr. Manning has released a book entitled Think Big (published by McClelland & Stewart) describing his use of the tools and institutions of democracy to change Canada’s national agenda. He has also served
as a Senior Fellow of the Canada West Foundation and as a Distinguished Visitor at the University of Calgary and University
of Toronto.
Mr. Manning is currently a Senior Fellow of the Fraser Institute and President and CEO of the newly formed Manning Centre for Building Democracy. The Manning Centre is a national not-for-profit organization supporting research, educational, and communications initiatives designed to achieve a more democratic society in Canada guided by conservative principles.
Mr. Manning continues to write, speak, and teach on a variety of subjects including the revitalization of democracy in the Western world, the revitalization of Canadian conservatism, Canada-U.S. relations, strengthening relations between the scientific and political communities, the re-balancing of Canadian federalism, the regulation of the genetic revolution, and the management of the interface between faith and politics.
