WILDLIFE

The ACA’s Wildlife Program consists of five program areas, which are defined as follows:

Population Inventory and Assessment Applied Ecological Studies

The Population Inventory and Assessment Program is intended to collect scientifically credible population inventory and distribution data on priority species to facilitate their management. It is also intended to collect population and distribution information as part of the monitoring of habitat enhancement work completed under the ACA’s Habitat Program.

The Applied Ecological Studies Program addresses ecological knowledge gaps for priority species and includes studies addressing resource selection, causes of population declines, and movement patterns.

Support Program

Recreational Opportunities

The Support Program addresses the ACA’s specific legal program obligations as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding with ASRD. For the Wildlife Program, these legal obligations include the Waterfowl Crop Damage Prevention (CDC) Program, Report a Poacher (RAP), Shot Livestock Compensation Program and Wildlife Predator Compensation Program.

The Recreational Opportunities Program develops and supports opportunities that enhance the consumptive and non-consumptive wildlife related recreational experiences for all Albertans.

Species-at-Risk Recovery Plan Support and Implementation

The Species-at-Risk Recovery Plan Support and Implementation Program includes assistance with data collection to facilitate the development of recovery plans, participating on recovery teams, and the implementation of recovery actions for those species that have Minister approved recovery plans.
