Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) is looking for highly organized and motivated seasonal workers to support our Wildlife Resource Program.
Position Requirements
As part of the Wildlife Resource Program, you will be required to travel throughout Alberta from May through August, with all work-related expenses provided (i.e., accommodations, meals, vehicles). At times, you may be required to work in physically demanding terrain, in adverse weather conditions, and during long, irregular hours. Highly organized individuals that can work in a team and camp environment and collect and maintain detailed and accurate field data are most appealing. Positions may require interactions with the public and various partner organizations. As a result, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are an asset.
Qualifications
- Acquired or ongoing biological, conservation sciences or natural resource degree or technical diploma.
- Ability to read and interpret maps and operate a compass and handheld GPS unit.
- Basic computer and software skills (e.g., Excel, Word).
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (must supply driver abstract before start date).
- Current Standard First Aid with CPR, WHMIS, and Defensive Driving certificates.
- Strong planning and time management skills.
- Wildlife identification skills and survey experience, particularly raptors, bats, snakes, amphibians, burrowing owls, or short-horned lizards, considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills considered assets.
- ATV experience considered an asset.
- Strong hunting, fishing, ranching, or farming background considered assets.
- Good organizational skills and ability to record data neatly considered assets.
- Other skills such as ATV experience, GIS, acoustic recording analysis, and data entry considered beneficial.
- Good communications skills and ability to work with producers and in team settings.
- Independent, show attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
Salary: $21.00 – $22.50 per hour for all positions

Multiple Species at Risk (MULTISAR) – Wildlife
Position number: W2025-001
Term: May – August 2025
Location: Lethbridge, AB
Number of Positions: 1
Position Responsibilities
- Conducting early morning (driving to the site prior to sunrise) surveys for grassland/riparian/forest birds on pre-selected properties in southern Alberta. As a lot of the work in 2025 will be focused in the southeast corner of Alberta, past experience and a good understanding of grassland/riparian/forest birds and how to ID them from sight and sound is crucial. A few properties are also within the Porcupine Hills (a bird ID quiz will be administered during the interview).
- Completing surveys for sharp-tailed grouse, bats, amphibians, greater short-horned lizards, and snake hibernacula.
- Using a GPS unit and maps is expected and is essential to navigate to required field sites.
- Working long field days is unavoidable, and individuals may be required to stay out at field camps for portions of the week during May and June, but otherwise are expected to work out of the Lethbridge office.
- Maintaining equipment and company vehicles.
- Assisting the range agrologist with detailed vegetation inventories, range health assessments (native and tame), and forest health assessments on properties.
- Adhering to ACA Health and Safety protocols.
Multiple Species at Risk (MULTISAR) – Range

Term: May – August 2025
Location: Lethbridge, AB

Position Responsibilities
- Assisting the range agrologist with detailed vegetation inventories and range health assessments on pre-selected properties in southern Alberta. Past experience and/or a good understanding of range health assessments and strong plant identification skills (grasses, shrubs, and forbs) pertaining to Alberta’s grasslands is critical (a plant ID quiz will be administered during the interview).
- Using a GPS unit and maps is expected and is essential to navigate to required field sites.
- Working long field days are unavoidable, and individuals may be required to stay out at field camps for portions of the week during June, July and August, but otherwise are expected to work out of the Lethbridge office.
- Maintaining equipment and company vehicles.
- Adhering to ACA Health and Safety protocols.
Pronghorn
Position number: W2025-003
Term: May – August 2025
Location: Lethbridge, AB

Position Responsibilities
- Modifying existing fences to pronghorn friendly standards.
- Walking fence lines to identify and mark existing crossing locations used by pronghorn, and assisting Alberta Wildlife Federation with their fence enhancement project in southern Alberta.
- Opportunity to locate collared pronghorn and mule deer in the field and participate in field necropsies in the event of a mortality.
- Ability to identify pronghorn, mule deer, and other ungulates.
- Using a GPS unit and maps is expected and is essential to navigate to required field sites.
- Maintaining equipment and company vehicles.
- Adhering to ACA Health and Safety protocols.
Species Habitat Assessments and Ranching Partnerships (SHARP)

Term: May – August 2025
Location: Sherwood Park, AB

Position Responsibilities
- Conducting early morning (driving to the site prior to sunrise) surveys for grassland/riparian/forest birds on pre-selected properties in southern Alberta. Past experience and a good understanding of grassland/riparian/forest birds and how to ID them from sight and sound is crucial (a bird ID quiz will be administered during the interview).
- Completing surveys for amphibians, waterfowl, and piping plovers.
- Installing autonomous recording units to detect birds, amphibians, and bats.
- Using a GPS unit and maps is expected and is essential to navigate to required field sites.
- Working long field days is unavoidable, and individuals may be required to stay out of town for portions of the week primarily during May and June.
- Assisting with data entry.
- Operating and maintaining company vehicles.
- Adhering to ACA Health and Safety protocols.
