Land Management - Junior Biologist
Alberta Conservation Association – Peace River - Full Time
Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) is looking for a highly motivated professional biologist to join our Land Management Program. This is a full-time position, based out of our northwest (NW) Regional Office in Peace River.
Responsibilities And Requirements
As part of the Land Management Program, you will draw on your experience and skills to inspect, maintain, and monitor ACA’s conservation sites; develop detailed management plans to guide future management of lands ACA owns or manages; assist with developing high-quality habitat securement proposals; assist in project planning and completing habitat restoration and enhancement projects (riparian), negotiating term agreements with landowners; develop and supervise delivery of contracts; and maintain detailed project files. There may also be opportunities for you to assist with other projects with ACA’s Wildlife and Fisheries Resource Programs.
Successful candidates will be required to report on projects, budgets, timelines, and related activities. Your work will support the land management team on key program delivery aspects including collaborating with a variety of project partners, landowners, and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum: B.Sc. in Biology or similar field with related experience
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (supply drivers abstract prior to start date)
- Valid First Aid Class C certification with Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
- Detail oriented with invaluable organizational and time management skills
- Good communication and writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with building and maintaining positive professional partnerships
- Sound computer knowledge and proficiency with various Microsoft programs and GIS
- Collaborative working style
Additional Skills Considered Assets
- Vegetation, fish, and wildlife identification skills
- Experience towing a trailer and using four-wheel drive
- Experience operating and maintaining a variety of field equipment (trucks, ATV, snowmobile, etc.)
- Knowledge of ACA's Land Management projects including ACA’s Conservation Site Management Program, Fisheries Access Site Management, Riparian Conservation, and Habitat Securement Program
- Experience negotiating with landowners
- Knowledge of various securement tools (land donations, purchase, and Ecological Gift Program)
- Experience with various upland and riparian habitat restoration techniques
- Experience completing range and riparian health assessments
- Experience working collaboratively with other conservation organizations
- Experience developing and writing management plans
- Hunting/angling background
- Professional Agrologist or Professional Biologist designations (or working towards)
