County of Warner

The County of Warner is a major partner in the Ridge Reservoir Habitat Project of southern Alberta. This project focuses on reclaiming and enhancing habitat alongside reservoirs and canals to benefit a wide variety of wildlife, invertebrates, amphibians, and fish species. In particular, hundreds of acres have been seeded, thousands of shrubs have been planted and a 6.18-acre wetland has been constructed to help filter nutrients and provide sensitive wildlife habitat. In addition, 45 kilometres of fencing and 20 offsite watering units have been installed to change the movement of cattle and further reduce their impact on wildlife habitat, especially sensitive riparian areas. This work has dramatically improved habitat quality along reservoirs and canals and provided additional opportunities to hunters.
