St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID)

St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) is partnering with Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) to improve water quality and habitat within its irrigation district. The Connectivity Project involves water sampling, range, riparian and wildlife assessments, followed by habitat enhancements that will not only benefit water quality and wildlife, but improve recreational opportunities.

This project focuses on developing partnerships with key members of the agricultural community in southern Alberta to improve wildlife habitat and increase habitat connections across the landscape. Work includes hosting various workshops and meetings, providing education materials such as best management guidelines, and helping organizations create, implement, and monitor multi-year habitat enhancement plans. This work has helped several landowners improve habitat quality and connectivity, which is particularly important for small and/or sensitive wildlife populations.

SMRID also supports the Taber Pheasant Festival
