Albian Sands Energy Inc.
In December 2007, Shell Albian Sands Energy Inc. (Shell Canada Ltd. 60%; Chevron Canada 20%; Marathon Oil Sands L.P. 20%) signed a commitment with ACA to provide $200,000 per year for 10 years to purchase conservation offset lands in the Boreal natural region of Alberta. These offsets have been endorsed by the Pembina Institute and the Oil Sands Environmental Coalition as terrestrial conservation offsets to reduce the overall net terrestrial disturbance of Albian's Muskeg River Mine Expansion 1 project on the boreal natural region. To date Albian's contributions have resulted in ACA purchasing 128 ha (320 acres) of land located close to Hubert Lake Wildland Park. Where required, these lands will be restored to native boreal forests with the help of organizations such as Trees Canada and Ducks Unlimited Canada. As with all ACA-owned properties, these terrestrial offsets will be managed for wildlife habitat and are open for public access (foot traffic only).
