Syncrude Canada Ltd. has committed $75,000 over five years ($15,000 per year) towards the Waterfowl Nesting Habitat Enhancement Project.
The Waterfowl Nesting Habitat Enhancement Project involves the participation of ACA and several partners including; Delta Waterfowl, Ducks Unlimited Canada, local Alberta Fish and Game Association clubs and individual volunteers who install nest tunnels and nest boxes in various locations across Alberta to improve nesting habitat.
This project aims to provide nest tunnels for mallard ducks and nest boxes for cavity nesting ducks (such as goldeneye and bufflehead) in areas where wetland habitat exists but suitable nesting habitat may be lacking. With Syncrude’s contribution we are now able to expand this project further into the boreal habitats northeast of Edmonton.
