Aerial Ungulate Surveys

Alberta Conservation Association (ACA) administers aerial ungulate surveys for moose, white-tailed deer, mule deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, bison and caribou across the province. To find hunting locations, check out our Outdoor Adventure Guide.

Aerial surveys provide valuable information for ASRD wildlife managers to determine:

  • Population size and composition
  • Population trends
  • Effects of previous management actions
  • Hunting tag allocations

ACA and Alberta Sustainable Resource Development work in partnership to conduct aerial surveys, many of which are made possible through levies on hunting tags.

Winter Chameleon

White-tailed ptarmigans have cleverly adapted to harsh mountain winters. These cool critters change their colour and bury themselves in powdery snow for insulation. But that's not all...

Did You Know...

In the past year, we planted 6.5 km of shelterbelts to enhance winter survival and escape cover for pheasants and other wildlife. More interesting facts in ACA's Annual Report
