Funded by the province's hunters and anglers, the Grant Eligible Conservation Fund annually supports a variety of projects both small and large which benefit Alberta's wildlife and fish populations, as well as the habitat they depend on. For 2011-2012 funding round, $500,000 has been allocated to 32 projects under the GECF Part A: Conservation Support and Enhancement and an additional $350,000 has been awarded to 20 research projects under the new GECF Part B: Research. Since 2002, the Grant Eligible Conservation Fund has received 1112 applications, of which 591 have been awarded grants. For every dollar granted, an estimated $6.30 is leveraged in partner dollars. To date, over $10 million has been granted through the GECF, leveraging an estimated $63 million in conservation projects across the province.
The next opportunity to apply for funding will be November 2011 for GECF Part B: Research and January 2012 for GECF Part A: Conservation Support and Enhancement. Application
