Penn West Energy

Penn West Energy believes that protection of the environment is integral to the success of our collective future. As part of their commitment to environmental protection, Penn West Energy has signed a five-year agreement with ACA to provide $75,000/year to our Riparian Restoration and Enhancement project.

Clean, cool water is not only a life requirement for fish and other aquatic organisms, but is integral to the survival of most wildlife species in this province.  The first step to ensuring a clean, cool water supply is to ensure the vegetation that grows along a watercourse; (the riparian zone) is healthy and intact.  The ACA riparian enhancement and conservation project works withland owners and local stewardship groups to restore and maintain riparian habitats in the watersheds of the Beaverlodge River, South Heart River, Lesser Slave River, Red Deer River, Bearberry River, Beaver River and Todd Creek.  This project is provincial in scope and will aim to improve existing riparian condition and promote long-term management practices to maintain riparian health, thereby ensuring clean, cool water for fish, wildlife and people.
