ScCS 2009 Conference - Program

The workshop schedule includes two half-days of formal presentations and a full day of field activities.

Tuesday, September 1 - ScCS Annual Meeting
The meeting begins at noon (bring a bag lunch or eat before you arrive) with presentations in the afternoon (supper provided).  Invited presentations include an overview of the history of ScCS for all those new attendees, plus bull trout status and management updates from the Alberta and British Columbia provincial governments and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  We’re opening up the remaining timeslots to any and all interested in presenting their new bull trout research, but we have a limited number of timeslots so please be sure to contact Mike (Mike.Rodtka@ab-conservation.com) as soon as possible with your idea for a presentation.  We’ll also have plenty of room for posters.

Wednesday, September 2 - Field Work Day
We will offer participants their choice of a wide array of field activities including redd surveys, fish trapping, angling, snorkeling and electrofishing for bull trout in the upper Bow River watershed. Please indicate a first and second preference for a field-day activity on the registration form.

We’d ask that all field day participants bring appropriate gear for a day spent afield in early autumn, as it’s quite possible that it could be near freezing and snowing or sunny and 25ºC (77ºF).  Be sure to bring your waders and/or snorkeling gear.  We’ll be providing a quaternary ammonium solution bath for everyone to sterilize their gear before leaving for the field.  Help us keep the upper Bow’s waters free of aquatic pests.

We take your health and safety seriously and, in addition to snorkel and/or wading gear, will be requiring field-day participants to wear appropriate personal protective equipment for their field activity, which may include a wading belt; protective, polarized eyewear; diving knife; etc. We may be able to supply some of this equipment, but would ask that you help out and bring whatever you can for the day.  Please note that all participants must sign a waiver prior to participating in the field day events.

Thursday, September 3 - Presentations

A half day of presentations (breakfast provided, but you are on your own for lunch).
