Okotoks Family Day Ice Fishing

Join the Okotoks and District Fish and Game Association (ODFGA) for Family Day Ice Fishing at Kids Can Catch at Chain Lakes Reservoir. This all-ages event is open to the public to come out and try their hand at ice fishing. Bring your own fishing rods if you have one! We have some to borrow. Out on the reservoir you will find pre-drilled holes, fishing mentors, and more!

Date: February 18, 2023
Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: Chain Lakes Provincial Park: Highway 22 & Highway 533

Driving directions: From Calgary or Okotoks, drive south on HWY 2 to Nanton then turn west on HWY 533; drive for 37 km. At the intersection of HWY 22, continue straight west into Chain Lakes Provincial Park.
Alternate route: Drive south on HWY 22 from Turner Valley and then turn west onto HWY 533 into the Park.

Parking directions: After turning off the highway into the Park continue straight west 800 m and then park in one of the three paved parking lots. Look for the canvas tent and banners set up off the boat launch.

Online Registration

Bring a lawn chair, food, and drinks; and dress warmly! No experience or equipment is required but you can bring any ice fishing gear you already own. Ice fishing rods, tackle, and bait will be available for you to borrow. Stroller, wagon, and wheelchair access is not available due to snow on the lake. Free hot chocolate and $1 hot dogs are available while supplies last.

Donations to the ODFGA conservation efforts are welcome but not required.

Fishing licences are not required on the Family Day weekend but Alberta Sportfishing Regulations apply to this event. Anglers may take home up to five (5) trout. Visit for more information.
